ZARDARI IN THIS WEEK (July 6 to 13)
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani today are going to resolve irrigation water distribution matter between Sindh, Panjab and Balochistan after the orders to re-open Chashma-Jehlam Link Canal by Irsa (Indus River System Authority). Sindh claims that the Chashma-Jehlam Link canal is a non-perennial canal meant only for flood control and it could not be used as a regular canal. But Punjab is of the view that it is perennial facility and every one has the right to draw its share of water. Balochistan's parliamentarian Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali has demanded to confiscate, seize and remove the office of Irsa and its work should be handed over to the Council of Common Interests. There is an acute shortage of drinking water in various areas of Sukkur and Nawabshah. Sindhi Nationalist Organizations are protesting against the opening of Chashma-Jehlam Link canal in Hyderabad continuously for last three days. Prime Minister Gilani will meet all the Chief Ministers to resolve the matter.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said, "10,000 mega-watt electric energy will soon be started to produce from Thar Coal Energy Project." This project was pending for several years but it was decided in a meeting between the President and the Prime Minister a few days ago that the work will be started on this project in current fiscal year. After the completion of this project, the shortage of energy crisis will be overcome and it would be helpful to finish load-shedding from the country.

President Zardari has said to the media men after reaching from China that he has no opposition on signing the nuclear trade agreements between India and any other country. But he wishes better relations of Pakistan and India for the prosperity and peace and to eradicate terrorism from both countries. He said, "Pakistan and India both have lost hundreds of lives in terrorism. India has provided the lists of Pakistani prisoners in Indian Jails", he said on a question.

During the visit of President Asif Ali Zardari, several Memorandums Of Understandings have been signed and a few other bilateral trade agreements have been finalized. In first agreement two roads will e built by China in Gilgit-Baltistan which will cause the promotion of road trade between Pakistan and China. Other MOU is for installing wind power mills from China for generating 500 mega watt electrical energy in coastal areas of Sindh.

China has showed interest in investing in energy and infrastructure projects in Pakistan. Keeping in view these developments, it was a successful visit of President Zardari to China. Both countries decided to increase and promote co-operation in nuclear technology also. In last two years the two countries had concluded 60 agreements in different fields opening up a number of new openings for China to invest in Pakistan. China will invest $100bn in two hydro power projects in Pakistan.

The China National Nuclear Corporation had signed an agreement with the Pakistani government to finance the construction of two new nuclear reactors in Pakistan.

China has pledged to provide Pakistan a grant of 50 million yuan for new development projects and signed an agreement on economic and technical cooperation and four memoranda for understanding (MoUs) with Pakistan relating to heath, geological survey and agriculture sectors. It proved that it was not successful but very successful visit of President Zardari to China.
